Sony MDR-V55 – Packaging, Design, and Materials

But let’s start by talking immediately about the aesthetic characteristics of the Sony MDR-V55. These are closed overhead headphones, made up of only two elements, namely rubber, and aluminum.

We can immediately tell you that the first of the two elements covers the part of the bow and the pavilions, offering the DJ the possibility to listen to the music that decides to play without having that annoying feeling of pressed ears.

The aluminum instead is present inside the headband of the Sony MDR-V55 headphones. We have seen how this headset model is quite light and practical. Rather resistant materials also characterize it.

Even the cable seemed rather resistant. It is flat and ends with a 3.5 mm L-shaped mini stereo jack, gold-plated. The only disadvantage we say is in the cable’s length that results in a bit short. We fall in the 1.2 meters to be headphones from DJ. It is certainly not the top.

Comfort and Ergonomics

Let’s talk about the comfort and ergonomics of the headphones, which we felt perfect: thanks to the soft padding present on the bow, both inside the pavilions, these headphones allow the user to use them for very long times, without experiencing particular annoyances to the ears and the head.

We have noticed how the headphones are also fully adjustable. You can stretch or narrow the bow on 10 levels of height to adapt to the head’s shape. We also add that the pavilions can be rotated so that the DJ has the opportunity to discover an ear for the time set-up of the song to be mixed.

Audio Quality

But let’s now analyze the most important part that every DJ surely will be curious to know, namely the sound quality of the Sony MDR-V55 headphones and the level of sound insulation. Let’s say immediately that this model of DJ headphones has an excellent sound quality, and this allows the DJ to be able to perform quite detailed mixes, perhaps using audio effects and custom equalizations between one song and another, then depends on the type of mixer you are using in the console.

The best sounds played by these headphones are the low ones, and this is possible thanks to the 40 mm neodymium driver and the wide frequency range starting from 5 Hz to a maximum of 25,000 Hz.

The sound of the Sony MDR-V55 is overall clean, and the bass is particularly deep. The mids are present but not particularly intrusive, while the high frequencies return a good detail in the definition of sound. The sound would be quite balanced if it were not for a slight emphasis on the low frequencies that, as we know, can like it or not, depending on your personal tastes.

A detail that we have found in these headphones is the overall sharpness of the sound. It is indeed very difficult for the Sony MDR-V55 to distort the sound, even at a fairly strong volume. This is also thanks to the excellent 40 mm neodymium driver and 105 DB/MW sensitivity.

The second technical aspect, namely concerning the sound insulation of the Sony MDR-V55, turns out to be good but not excellent. Let’s say it could have been better, a good part of the noise coming from the outside. Passes, on the other hand. These headphones have a fairly high-volume intensity, and this partly compensates for this disadvantage.
