Sennheiser Urbanite XL Wireless Headphone: Review

The Sennheiser Urbanite XL Wireless headphones are headphones for those who have grown tired of being hampered by wires and cables during their listening experiences. Sennheiser has decided to look directly at the realities of the future, leaving the threads in the past but bringing the sound quality of the future into the present.

Sennheiser Urbanite XL: Design

Unlike the other headphones in this line, the Sennheiser Urbanite XL Wireless is currently only available in black, and unfortunately, no other coloring options are offered. This does not seem to be a temporary choice, but not bad: the headphones are elegant and classic.

The Urbanite XL Wireless design features a wide band covered in black fabric with white stitching, while the lower part is made of soft rubber, very comfortable.

The material is plastic, conceived and designed to last over time. The hinges are instead in stainless steel. Despite everything cheap, the price derives from the fact that most of the material used is plastic, which also affects this model’s lightness, despite its size. The headband of the headphones can be folded and screwed according to the required size.

The over-ear headphones are generally comfortable: each pavilion is padded with soft foams, and the only unexpected, which unites all the headphones of the genre, is given by the lack of ventilation in the ears, which after a while tend to become hot. This affects the length of the listening performances, which for this reason, cannot be very long.

The earpads are quite adjustable, allowing a comfortable fit, even if they are not suitable for prolonged use. Some reviews complain of the too-small size of the auricle, but this is clearly very subjective.

The over-ear headphones have on their side the fact that they completely embrace the ear, which guarantees a superior comfort compared to the supported headphones. They also contribute to better sound insulation than headphones that do not have this specification.

With the headphones, Sennheiser also includes a comfortable padded case where you can store, folding the headphones to carry them with you comfortably.

Connectivity

Although the wireless model, the Sennheiser Urbanite XL Wireless headphones have a 1.2m cable that makes the classic connection possible via a 3.5 mm connection when necessary. For example, if you want to use the headphones on the plane or when the battery has run out. In this case, it will obviously not be possible to use the Wireless connection service.

With these headphones, you can control your music playback: on the headband, on the outside on the right, there is a touch sensor through which you can adjust the volume, pause a song, play the tracks or send them forward to skip those that don’t interest, etc. You can skip a track by double-tapping the sensor, while a triple tap will jump to the previous track.

The touch sensor also allows fast track advance. The only flaw of these sensor controls is that sometimes they accidentally touch each other, compromising the track’s reproduction.

This may not be a big deal, but an accidental hang-up maybe when making a call. A built-in microphone allows you to make wireless calls using the touchpad to answer calls.

The use of headphones via wireless allows 25 hours of use, which obviously will depend on various factors, such as the volume level set. It can be loaded on a Micro USB support, and the cable is included with the headphones.

The charging time was about two hours, although, as always, it varies depending on the charger you use. Urbanites use Bluetooth 4.0 with aptX, which is supported by many smartphones, even if not Iphones.

Also, NFC is integrated to make it even easier to pair the headphones with a smartphone or another NFC-enabled device. With this technology, you can connect up to 8 devices and use 2 simultaneously.

Technical features. The Sennheiser Urbanite XL Wireless sound is perfect and is rated by users with 4 out of 5 stars. The drivers are overall powerful, and the setup is balanced and easy to manage. They are a good choice, especially for those who love low sounds.

The midrange sounds are clear and present, and the voices emerge well, have a lot of color,s and are not dominated by high bass or high frequencies.

The high end is a bit more problematic because it is ” submerged ” by the other frequencies, even if sometimes it gives better balanced and generally clear sounds. This type of rendering is more evident with the wireless connection.

These specifications make the Sennheiser Urbanite XL Wireless headphones suitable for the rock and dance genre rather than a classic. As for the low frequencies, the Sennheiser Urbanite XL will offer sufficient performance for most musical genres, but not for all.

The lows are not excessive, remaining clear even at high volumes. Sound insulation is quite good, even at low volumes. If you are a smartphone or tablet owner, you can check your phone’s remaining battery life.

Conclusion

The Sennheiser Urbanite XL wireless headphones are a good pair of headphones. The controls are highly technological, and the double connection mode makes them exploitable in the most varied situations. They remain an excellent alternative to wired headphones, which are in many cases much more expensive.
